Venom Sting Back to Claim 3-2 Victory Over U9 Generals

The Venom secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the U9 Generals at home, a game that saw explosive offense in the first period, followed by a gritty defensive stand in the third. For a team that struggled to generate much shot volume—outshot 19-0 in a bizarre statistical twist—the Venom made their opportunities count with clinical finishing and just enough penalty kill work to hold the lead.

The opening period was a whirlwind of action. The Venom struck first when Alexander Mann (#4) capitalized on a feed from Keaton Sweeney (#11) at the 10:55 mark of the first. The lead was short-lived, as Wesley Holben (#21) doubled it just over two minutes later with help from Noah McRoberts (#20), giving the home side a quick 2-0 cushion. But the U9 Generals answered back in a hurry, as Cassian Greig (#16) cut the deficit to one at 5:28, assisted by Jamie Gaudet (#37) and Mateo Snaterse (#21). The period ended with the Venom holding a precarious 2-1 lead, setting the stage for a tense second period.

The middle frame saw both teams trade goals once again. The U9 Generals found the equalizer early in the period when Jackson Roy (#17) buried an even-strength goal at the 10:52 mark, tying the game at 2-2. But the Venom responded with remarkable speed, as Alexander Mann (#4) netted his second of the game just 50 seconds later, reclaiming the lead at 3-2. From there, the game tightened considerably. A tripping penalty to the U9 Generals’ Emmett MacDonald (#25) late in the second period gave the Venom a power play, but they failed to extend the lead. The third period became a battle of attrition, with the Venom’s defense—and the lack of a single recorded save from either goalie, a statistical oddity—suggesting the Generals simply couldn’t find the finish they needed. A too-many-men penalty on the Generals at 11:01 of the third killed any comeback momentum, and the Venom held on for the one-goal win. Despite the Generals’ 19-0 shot advantage, the Venom’s ability to score on their few chances proved the decisive difference in this spirited minor league clash.
