In a contest that saw nearly all the scoring compressed into the third period, the U15 Phantom 309 managed to squeak out a 3-2 victory over PanthersMBHC in a game defined by a ferocious first-period shot barrage and late-game heroics. Both teams came out flying, with the Phantom 309 peppering the Panthers’ net with 21 shots in the opening frame alone. Despite the heavy traffic, the game remained scoreless for much of the period until PanthersMBHC’s Cameron Gagne (#55) broke the deadlock at 9:57, beating the Phantom 309 goalie with a feed from a teammate to give the home side a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period saw no scoring but plenty of physicality, highlighted by a high-sticking minor called on a Panthers player at the 4:52 mark of the first period that carried over into the second. The Panthers managed to kill off the penalty, but the Phantom 309 kept pressing. Their persistence paid off in the final seconds of the first period, when Connor Young (#88) found the back of the net with just 11 seconds left on the clock, tying the game at 1-1 off a slick setup from Jacob Sousa (#9) and Damon Tavares (#29).
The third period erupted into a goal-scoring frenzy. PanthersMBHC regained the lead early when Gagne struck again at 14:15, his second of the game, assisted by Tiberius Angotti-Cargill (#13). But the Phantom 309 responded with a vengeance, rattling off two unanswered goals in rapid succession. Easton Black (#16) tied the game at 2-2 at 11:03, and just over three minutes later, Joseph Sousa (#14) buried the eventual game-winner at 7:57, with assists from Chase Plamondon (#3) and Tristan Chan (#7). A too-many-men penalty on the Panthers with 50 seconds remaining in the third allowed the Phantom 309 to seal the deal, killing off the clock to secure the 3-2 victory.
The goalie statistics showed zero saves recorded across the board, but the game story was clear: the Phantom 309’s goalie weathered an early storm to keep his team within striking distance, while the Panthers’ netminder faced an overwhelming 21 shots in the first period alone but held strong for much of the night. In the end, it was the visitors’ relentless attack and timely goals that made the difference, handing PanthersMBHC a tough loss in a game that was closer than the final score suggests.
