In a display of overwhelming offensive firepower, the Yeti 2010 team turned a competitive opening into a complete rout, dismantling the U18 Oil Crushers with an 8-1 victory. The game started deceptively close, with the Oil Crushers striking first just over a minute in. Austin Weaver-Reves (#53) found the net at 8:47 of the first period, assisted by Axton Ross (#7), giving the visitors a brief 1-0 lead. However, the joy was short-lived. Just under three minutes later, the Yeti’s Blake Veenstra (#88) answered back, tying the game at one off a feed from Matti Assefa (#96). Despite the Oil Crushers drawing a high-sticking penalty, the period ended with the score locked, but the shot clock told a different story: Yeti 2010 had unleashed a staggering 30 shots on goal in the first period alone, a clear sign of the storm to come.
The second period was a relentless deluge. The Yeti offense, led by the dominant line of Veenstra, Assefa, and Harris Voogd (#95), completely took over. Willem Schenk (#9) scored twice in the period, first at 14:10 with help from Ian Huisman (#74) and Nathan Berube (#7), and then again at 2:35, tipping in a pass from Samuel Smith (#66) and Jaxson MacFarlane (#12). In between, Jonathan Mitchell (#43) notched a power-play goal at 10:36, with Veenstra earning the assist. The period ended with a stunning four-goal explosion in the final 1:12. First, MacFarlane buried one with assists from Smith, then Veenstra scored with just two seconds left, finishing a beautiful passing play with Assefa and Parker Jefferson (#2). The Yeti carried a commanding 6-1 lead into the second intermission.
The third period saw the hosts continue to pour it on, while the Oil Crushers’ frustration boiled over. The Yeti added two more goals: Harris Voogd scored at 8:05, and Veenstra completed his hat trick at 1:10, both with assists from their relentless forward line. As the final buzzer approached, the Oil Crushers’ Colton Rombough (#25) was ejected with a game misconduct, capping a frustrating night for the visitors. The Yeti’s defense, anchored by goalie Hugo Seiler (#80), was impenetrable after the first goal, allowing just 13 total shots in the entire game. Seiler’s shutout performance over the final 40-plus minutes was the perfect foundation for a blowout victory, as Yeti 2010’s relentless attack and stifling defense left the U18 Oil Crushers buried under an avalanche of goals.
